A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on 30 May 2008 between SIM University (UniSIM) and five public accounting firms namely, Don Ho & Associates, Foo Kon Tan Grant Thornton, KPMG, Nexia Public Accounting Corporation and RSM Chio Lim.
This collaboration fosters a closer relationship between UniSIM and the accounting industry. The accounting firms provide study awards to the Bachelor of Accountancy students and also support their own employees to upgrade their qualifications through this programme. Senior accounting professionals in these five accounting firms are also involved in the development and delivery of courses in the Accountancy programme.
Senior accounting professionals in our MOU partners' firms also participate as members of the Accountancy programme's Advisory Panel, which comprises of academic and industry leaders who meet regularly to advise on matters relating to the programme, curriculum, and future direction of the profession and industry needs. Representatives from the accounting firms are invited to share their experience in a bi-annual informal dinner with students, alumni and faculty.
The accounting firms will also provide job opportunities for UniSIM students to work and learn at the same time. These are designed to enrich their learning experience. Such arrangements are also a plus to students who may enjoy favourable employment opportunities with these firms upon graduation.
"The benefits to students are two-fold: Students will be able to learn first-hand from the experience of senior practitioners and see how knowledge and theories are applied to provide solutions to real world challenges. Such industry placements also ensure that there will be no lapse between learning and application as students will be able to learn today at UniSIM and apply tomorrow at their workplace", said Professor Koh Hian Chye, Dean, School of Business, UniSIM.
* On 17 March 2017, SIM University (UniSIM) was renamed Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) as part of its re-structuring to become a Singapore autonomous university.
