Synopsis

TLL109 explains how sounds are organized and the letters of the Tamil alphabet, such as vowels, consonants, and mute consonants. It also covers their order in the Tamil alphabet, methods of articulation, their duration of sound, the letters that could occur in the initial, medial, and final positions of the words, the use of Grantha letters in Tamil, and divisible and indivisible words, etc. In addition, it also deals with Tamilising Sanskrit words as codemixing between Tamil and Sanskrit languages has been common in the Indian sub-continent.
