Synopsis

This course focuses on key areas of interpreting, providing both content knowledge and skills training. Students will be exposed to issues in the interpreting process. In particular a focus will be given on simultaneous interpretation. Key topics will include expectations of different user groups, the role of the interpreter, quality assessment, metaphors in interpretation and finally the role of culture and politeness in interpretation. Students will be expected to take part in mock interpreting sessions.

E-Learning: BLENDED - Learning is done MAINLY online using interactive study materials in MyUniSIM. Students receive guidance and support from online instructors via discussion forums and emails. This is supplemented with SOME face-to-face sessions. If the course has an exam component, this will be administered on-campus.
