Synopsis

The purpose of the course is to familiarise students with differences between the Malay and Indonesian forms of the language and historical reasons for these differences. Differences to be explored fall into the categories of vocabulary, sentence structure, pronunciation and discourse organisation, both spoken and written. Students will be given some instruction and practice in comparing and analysing two similar yet different linguistic forms. By the end of the course students should be familiar with the main differences between Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Melayu and they should be able to analyse and describe differences between similar linguistic forms.

E-Learning: BLENDED - Learning is done MAINLY online using interactive study materials in MyUniSIM. Students receive guidance and support from online instructors via discussion forums and emails. This is supplemented with SOME face-to-face sessions. If the course has an exam component, this will be administered on-campus.
