Synopsis

ECE360 Case-Based Child Study and Intervention introduces more in-depth approaches to early intervention so as to be inclusive and supportive towards children with mild to moderate disabilities and/or learning difficulties. A case-based approach is used to facilitate students’ understanding of an enquiry-based and problem-solving approach to promote children’s academic learning, social skills, communication or behavioural outcomes. Students will learn about the processes of strategically evaluating and documenting the child’s current performance level, establishing intervention objectives, developing intervention plans, implementing interventions, and evaluating intervention outcomes. Skills learned in this course strengthen pedagogical skills that would work for all children.

  • Plan strategies to support children with challenging behaviours
  • Design an intervention strategy for a child and evaluate its success
  • Recommend ways to improve family and community involvement in supporting children with special needs
