Synopsis

The course is designed to promote a confident grasp of Chinese language through strengthening the students' writing skills. This course introduces the key rhetorical modes of Chinese essay writing, namely, descriptive, narrative, persuasive and expository. It gives students an opportunity to practice and explore writing skills of major text types in Chinese, including literary writing, writing for media, legislation, business and finance, academic writing and workplace writing. Students will be introduced to re-drafting and editing-culminating skills. The relation between writing and diverse culture that produces it will be covered. This course lays strong foundation for the students to pursue further study in translation.
