Synopsis

BSE525 Legal Aspects of Outdoor Education addresses basic legal issues and law that affect the administration of outdoor education and outdoor recreation programmes. Students will be introduced to fundamental legal terminology, legal procedures, liability limiting agreements, defences against negligence, among others, during the seminars. Case studies will be presented to illustrate how legal concepts may be applied to mitigate complaints against programmers, schools, and outdoor enterprises. Understanding the legal issues will assist outdoor leaders and enterprises in conducting appropriate risk management for both the delivery of outdoor activities and for potential legal consequences that might arise from participation in those activities.
