Synopsis

This course introduces the major curriculum philosophies that Art Education has been shaped by. The historical, social and political circumstances that incubated these ideologies will be explored and discussed. Contemporary perception of Art Education will be scrutinized. In BAE 307, alternate views of Art Education and Art Pedagogy will be presented and analysed. Students will have to evaluate current Art curriculum models and situate these within the larger historical and philosophical contexts of Education in general. Students will also be expected to formulate an approach to Art curriculum design that incorporates their own personal philosophy to Art Education, national objectives and organisation based ideologies.
